GSC is like any standard IM program in that you have to sign up for a user account after installing it. The voice server capability is just as good as vent and looks a lot nicer IMO. There is a friends list as well as the ability to share files over the voice server using their FileSwap.com affiliation.


To join GSC voice servers, click the 'Voice' tab and input the voice server info at the bottom where it says 'Add'.

Voice -> Add -> By IP -> Input IP and Port. It will ask for the Password after.

Or, since I have enabled the voice server to be found via searching:

Voice -> Add -> By Searching -> By Owner -> 'TideSwayer'
Voice -> Add -> By Searching -> By Name -> 'ECTOs Community'

Anyone in the community is welcome to use the ECTOs Community GSC Voice Server. It has a 200-slot player capacity so there is plenty of room for whatever. If you don't have the password, just PM someone (in-game or out) and it will be given to you.

There is now a GSC Server Status widget on the Portal showing who is online on the ECTOs Community GSC server. Unlike the familiar Ventrilo Status widget, it doesn't show you which particular rooms everyone is in, just who is on the server itself. Functional enough.

After installing GSC, you'll want to take a few minutes to look through the various settings.

In the main friendslist window, go to File -> Settings


In particular, the Audio Settings will enable you to configure your push-to-talk hotkey, among other things.

Until further notice, we will be using the [SMF] Alliance Ventrilo Server as our main method of voice chat. The ECTOs Community GSC Voice Server will be left up for private and/or backup purposes until then. Anyone is still free to use the ECTOs Community GSC Voice Server at any time, for any thing. That's why it's there.
