Nice.

Though you'll get smoother gameplay by enabling the wait for vsync. It will limit your FPS to your monitor's FPS, so your screen won't tear.

I just cried a little for you, Sheriff. I'm consistently in the 60's running 4 accounts simultaniously. Drop it down to 2 accounts and I'm in the 30's. Been as low as 18.

F11->graphics->"wait for v-sync" uncheck that box.

Yeah V-Sync is not worth using unless you have high fps and you see tearing, even then I never use v-sync

Sure, it's just personal preference, but I always use V-sync. If your FPS is constantly above your monitor's refresh it's fine. And since GW is an old game, it's easy to have an FPS > 60.

Yes, generally speaking. The more FPS (which means "Frames Per Second") you have is a sign that your computer is able to render all of the graphics and compute all of the game engine calculations and run as it was intended.

Your game will feel smoother the higher your average FPS is. It's when you have huge FPS swings (ie. 95fps staring at the wall, 27fps looking down a hill, 18fps in Kamadan, AD1) where the game starts feeling choppy. In those cases - especially in first-person shooter games - most people will try to configure their game settings for the highest constant framerate instead of those really high peaks in rare instances. It can throw your timing off especially when aiming gun crosshairs.

After a certain number a really high FPS is just overkill, however. Anything too much over 60fps constant is usually seen as 'frames' that the human eye cannot distinguish. Technically speaking, your monitor can't even draw lots of frames either. Most monitor refresh rates are around 60Hz-85Hz. Even though a higher-than-refresh rate FPS can be reported by the game engine, your monitor isn't able to draw more frames than it's refresh rate supports.

V-Sync locks FPS at whatever refresh rate your monitor is set to, but that doesn't necessarily mean your computer will be able to get that many frames per second if set. It will just put added priority in keeping that frames number constant as much as possible, which in turn could bog down your system even further if your computer can't really handle that V-Sync setting (ie. run at that constant framerate). The game could run even worse on average than if you just turn off V-Sync completely. This is why people with less-powerful computer configurations notice a slight jump in average framerate when turning off V-Sync.

Well, I feel stupid. I actually knew that, but for some reason, it didn't connect that I had it in reverse. My fps running 4 accts at the same time is usually around 60

My old-ass Pentium 4 running double accounts is usually playable, but if even ONE of those accounts is in Kamadan, AD1, it's a veritable slideshow. Zones with lots of people moving around such as Kamadan, AD1 puts way too much strain on the CPU (players' movements are 'calculations'), and frankly my old-ass P4 cannot handle it. Hell, even with only one account running my Kamadan, AD1 FPS is only like 25, tops.

I generally keep my settings higher than I probably should, although to be honest my graphics card is severely bottlenecked by my CPU anyways. I don't mind having a low fps in Kamadan as you are usually just standing still there watching the market. I'm sure having the trade chat expanded to fit all the way up the left side of my screen isn't helping either. Not to mention the added pixels to render going from my old 1280x1024 CRT monitor resolution to my current 1440x900 LCD monitor resolution. I play in a window usually and for me it seems to hinder my performance slightly. (I've seen it go either way depending upon the particular person and PC configuration.)

Oh well. In general my fps is in the 40-60 range for most in-game activities, which is good enough for an MMO.

In terms of power, my computer isn't all that up to par with today's standards. In terms of lastability, I bet there aren't a lot of people running around in 2010 with PC's built in 2003 that are still going pretty strong. In 2003, this CPU was top dog and my mobo (ABIT IC7-MAX3) was the best you could get. There's no reason for me to build a new computer until there's something I need the extra power for. GW1 runs acceptable on this comp, and there aren't really any newer games out that I actually want to play. I can play HD videos on this comp as I have recently upgraded the videocard to something more current. I can multi-task on this comp for the most part. I'm trying to hold out for a near-GW2-release new computer build as I'm pretty certain the increased scope of GW2 is going to require a more modern PC (despite what ANet says), but I don't know if I can wait that long, until GW2 releases, to build it. I'll probably look towards early next year to build a new box regardless.

Computer parts are in a state of flux right now. Intel doesn't want to commit to a socket long-term (last I read, the Core i7 sockets won't even be compatible with their new line of chips) so even today's high-end CPUs may be in a dead-end upgrade path. AMD chips are closing the gap on Intel but they are still missing out on too many benchmarks for my liking. Not to mention the rising prices/already high prices on a LOT of pieces. RAM for old DDR2 and DDR is going back up as it's out of production, and DDR3 sticks aren't exactly dropping in price. Blu-Ray burners and blank Blu-Ray media are still waaaaaaaaay too expensive for the mass market. Top-line videocards run way too hot - which means they won't last long in years - and cost $300-$400 which is ridiculous. I could go on...

Keep in mind that for me it isn't as easy as just needing to buy a new CPU/Mobo. My old-ass computer means I'll pretty much need an entire new setup: case, power supply, PCI-E vidcard, newer RAM, the aforementioned CPU/mobo, Windows 7 (although that just got bought to use on my older system for now), etc.. Adds up quick, so I want to make sure I actually go in on a configuration that will last me a decent amount of time.

There are two core i7 sockets, LGA 1156 and LGA 1366. Intel's new Core i9 hexacore processor will use the LGA 1366 socket. Which is the same socket the Core i7 900series use, which are great i7 processors. If you only use your computer to play guild wars then I definitely wouldn't rush upgrading, as you already know you might upgrade and a month or two later a new technology will come out making the components you bought a month ago dirt cheap.
