| The first Trackmania is one of the most fun racing games ever made. One of its crowning features was its VERY user-friendly controls and editor, which let people make tracks and upload them for the community to play. None of this 3-D modeling know-how needed to make maps - just point and click. In addition to the sequel to Trackmania, currently in development, there will also be Shootmania, where people can design FPS-styled maps/games, and Questmania, where people can design RPG-styled maps/games. Not much info being given about the latter two just yet, but the video below discusses Maniaplanet, the community that Nadeo - the developer - is going to use to link all the 'Mania' communities into one giant super community. Here is a nice promo video: http://www.gametrailers.com/video/e3-2010-maniaplanet/101448 BETA Trackmania 2: Q4, 2010 BETA Shootmania: Q1, 2011 BETA Questmania: Coming Soon ...Yeah. ______________________

| The only complaint - and it's a MAJOR one - is that Ubisoft is going to be this game's publisher, and Ubisoft has gained a notorious reputation of late for using horrid DRM methods in its games. I'll probably pass until it's available on Steam.
I actually passed on the first Trackmania until it was put on Steam because the boxed versions (and even demos) came with that Starforce DRM bullshit that was known to fuck PCs up. No joke, I waited YEARS. I fell in love with the series back in 2003-2004 with the Trackmania Sunrise demo but once I realized that Starforce was put onto my PC for a fucking DEMO, that love was lost.
Stay tuned... ______________________ |

I love trackmania, but these new games are going to be bundledwith some bullshit DRM then there is no way I will be using them. I really do think that many companies do themselves more harm with DRM than protection, as inevitably, the DRM is broken and pirates can still play the games, leaving those who buy the games legitimately left to deal with draconic DRM measures. It actually encourages me to pirate games instead of purchasing, just to avoid all the unnecessary messing around. I mean come on, single player games which you have to be connected to the internet ALL THE TIME to play? That would seriously piss me off, especially with my recent situation of not having internet. And install limits too, they annoy me. Recently I've had to frequently switch computers due to breakages/forced upgrades and not only do I lose the saved progress I have on those games (recently remedied with a wonderful little app I run every time I save a game, GameSave Manager.) but I also lose the right to play them EVER AGAIN? I mean really, this is totally uncalled for. Don't even get me started on Starforce... |
