OnLive is a gaming-on-demand game platform. In other words, streamed based gaming. Instead of streaming a video over the internet, you can stream a whole video game. You can play hardware hungry games on a crappy computer. This service is new so their are only a hand full of games, but it will be expanding quickly. Right now OnLive is offering 1-year free subscription until July 15, 2010. Otherwise the service will cost $15 a month. I would take advantage of the free 1 year now and at least give it a try to satisfy your curiosity and also see if your internet can handle it.

The Minimum Recommended Requirements are:

• PC: Windows® 7 or Vista (32 or 64-bit) or XP (32-bit)
  
• Mac: Mac OS X 10.6 or later
  
• Processor: Dual-core CPU
  
• Screen Resolution: 1280x720
  
• Internet Connection: 5 Mbps located inside the contiguous United States (wired connection required)

My account got activated today for 1 year free to try it out. My connection is 6mb and the OnLive service ran really well and no skips. The quality wasn't bad, but not high end graphics because its compress and my internet isn't fast. If I had a faster internet connection, then the resolution/quality will be a lot better. Other than that, I was able to play games that went able to run on my computer before, due to old hardware.

Damnit, only available in the US.. I would totally sign up if it wasn't. Been waiting for this for a while now, and the 1 year free would be amazing, absolutely gutted I can't get it.

Theirs still hope Link. OnLive said their are servers in the the UK set to go online near the end of this year. Maybe they will do another free year promotion to kick off for international launch.

How long does it take?

Accounts are not activated in order. It could be either today or a couple of days.

This thing sounds great; can't wait until I can actually use it.

I got the invitation, but my parents won't let me use their credit card, so I'm at a standstill.

I was hesitant to use my creditcard at first, but the 1 year free sealed the deal. The credit card is only used to verify age so OnLive wont get sued. Also If you want to rent / purchase game. After the 1 year free is over, OnLive will ask you to sign up on their monthly subscription. Otherwise your account gets automatically suspended until you re-enter your credit card to re-activate.

I hated asking my parents for their creditcard for online buying. I always had to convince them... Once I turned 18, I got my own credit card right away.
