Worldgens

Omni, you can just regen a new world to get rid of the snow. Right now mapgen only gives you a choice between two types: grassy and snowy. If you continually regen new worlds over the same slot as existing worlds without manually cleaning out your save files folder you can often end up with really weird mapgen landscapes which are basically combinations of older-mapgenned landscapes and the newer ones. The game is still in Alpha, so it doesn't clean up your old files very well. (Just a quirk in the system - the maps genned are still perfectly fine, just with some copycat elements you may have seen before if you don't get rid of those elements.) If you regen a grassy map over a pre-existing snowy one, you'll get a bit of snow and grass mixed in on the same map. (Well, really just your old snow areas will get mixed in with the new sometimes.)

Eventually, the plan is to have mapgens with all types of landscapes in one. These 'biomes' were supposed to make it in this past weekend, but weren't finished. They'll probably be added soon.




Pay vs. Free

The version you are playing right now Omni is exactly the same as the pay version, sans the sounds which got disabled accidentally from the current, temporary, download location. (You can fix the sound issues by downloading the sound files here and manually extracting them using those in-thread step-by-step instructions.) Because of an update snafu this past weekend which crashed the Minecraft server, Notch (the developer) offered the pay game up free for everyone to try out until the server is back up, which could literally happen at any time (and will, soon). Once that happens, all the free users will have to pay up or be left out in the cold again.

There is normally a free version which is a year-old Minecraft demo that is just an open world with an infinite block builder. Nothing like the pay version's current day/night, crafting, building, mob fighting game is. This current Minecraft product is an extension of that old demo.




The Truth Is Out There, Not Just From Me

Please don't ask me every question about the game, including ones which have already been answered, either here in this thread or elsewhere. Go to the official forums and read around a bit. Check out the wiki. Watch YouTube videos about Minecraft. I know you want to play the game as much as possible, but it's not like I want to sit here and write a goddamn user manual either.

I love the game. I think the game is already incredible in its current state and I can't wait to see what it becomes over the next few months (years?). I haven't played it in over a week because I have other things on my plate. Hell, I don't even have the newest version yet because I haven't even bothered to update my files.

Well that puts my humble world to shame... i have a floating brickhouse above my mine/storage area. i'm definately stealing that sign next to chest idea to keep track of my shit.

Damnit i just watch these videos and it makes me want to spend hours andshours improving my world huskymudkipz is doing a semi tutorial type thing in his videos as well beyond just blowing shit up with tnt.

When you pay for game do they ship something to you?

Yes, after you've paid, you can download the .jar file (Java stuff). Or, you can play online.

Btw, now the server is semi-offline, how can you play?

The servers are in the process of getting tested and fixed, and the free-to-play period is over. However, as predicted the 'free' publicity for the game is already paying off in spades: the game has been available to buy (again) for less than 24 hours, and there have been more than 10,000 (!) sales of the game since then!

The older, free Minecraft Classic (infinite block builder) isn't back up yet though. Also, sounds still aren't working right for new players. (New bug this time that affects even more people.) Notch is aware of it and says that will be fixed tonight (his time, Swedish time).

OMG. Now it's up to 16,976 people in the past 24 hours who have bought the game. Easily the most ever in a 24-hour span. Most ever before this was something like 7,000 sales in one day last week. The number sold will probably get even larger too as the server kinks get worked out during the course of the day and the in-game sounds get put back in.

Hopefully everything gets sorted out so we can start getting some worthwhile in-game updates soon. Game-changers, I mean.

I was playing single player and still don't need to pay yet. I don't enter name or password and after i click login it says play offline.

Sales hit somewhere over 25,000 in the last 24 hours period. Awesome.

Do you guys play multiplayer part of it? That's really only difference it looks like it has?

sweet jesus. so i was mining in my world in the never ending search for DIAMONDS when suddenly... LAVA comes pouring out of a brick that i just mined... and yeah long story short 3 hours later i have over three stacks of obsidian... was a fucking pool of the stuff. i didn't even get a chance to explore the cavern beyond the lava pool in it but hoping it's something awesome

We should make a guild server in Classic.

The Official Minecraft forums have made a special Minecraft Halloween Update sub-forum for all of the Halloween-related discussions. There is a HOT FUROR over the torches being made finite in burn-time. However, Notch has been quoted as saying that all of the existing torches in current worlds will get changed to lanterns automatically and the new version of the torch will get added in as a new item.

Diffcult mobs ohhh body, i've heard rumors on some forums of dragons, iron is going to be a premium with laterns which i'm betting will be
