| | Quote: | You're Invited!
War and pride have kept them apart, but nothing can stop Lt. Keiran Thackeray and Gwen from reuniting. In Hearts of the North, you play a crucial role in the reunion of these two Ascalonian heroes! – Destined to be together –
Hearts of the North is the next installment of Guild Wars Beyond, an ongoing campaign that expands upon the Guild Wars storyline and lays the foundation for the upcoming Guild Wars 2.
Following the events of the War in Kryta, Hearts of the North tells the historic story of the union of two of the greatest heroes of Ascalon, Gwen and Keiran Thackeray. The Ebon Vanguard came to the aid of the Shining Blade rebels during the Krytan civil war, sending the valiant Lt. Keiran Thackeray and his elite Ebon Falcons to train the insurgents. During the climax of the war, Keiran seemingly sacrificed his life to save civilians from the oppressive White Mantle, leaving Gwen, the woman he loves, to face another unbearable loss in her life. But Keiran Thackeray is very much alive, and he’ll cut through an army of foes to reach his destiny.
This series of quests and missions chronicles Keiran Thackeray’s long odyssey to find himself and return home to his beloved, culminating in the wedding of Gwen and Keiran – but only if you help! You will search for clues to the whereabouts of the lost lieutenant and even play Keiran himself in a series of missions set in the aftermath of the War in Kryta.
Only those who have finished the War in Kryta can access Hearts of the North. Once you have participated in Keiran’s safe return, you can attend the wedding and associated festivities. For an overview of the War in Kryta, go here. |
| Quote: | Gwen
The charr destroyed everything dear to her when Gwen was a young girl. Her toughness and single-minded hatred of the charr served her well as a member of the Ebon Vanguard, but Gwen was bitter and full of rage – until she met Keiran Thackeray. The noble ranger was immune to her cruelest barbs and took her indifference in stride, and over time Gwen’s frozen heart melted. She finally realized her true feelings for Keiran when he was reported missing in action. Now Gwen leads the Ebon Vanguard alone and waits for any word of Keiran’s fate… |
| Quote: | Keiran Thackeray
An orphan of war, the Ascalonian ranger Keiran Thackeray has endured forced marches, pitched battles, and endless Shiverpeak winters during his time with the Ebon Vanguard, but the fierce, headstrong Gwen is the young ranger’s greatest challenge. Before Keiran’s elite unit, the Ebon Falcons, was sent to war-torn Kryta to aid the Shining Blade, he and Gwen quarreled, and Keiran marched to war questioning his role in her life. The Ebon Vanguard believed that he perished in that savage war, but Keiran Thackeray is a hard man to kill…

Go to HoM, obtain Kieran's Bow from Gwen, use scrying pool.
Quest 2: Pick up emblem in Majesty's Rest. Emblem is just inside the west entrance.
Go to HoM, use scrying pool.

| What did I tell you Reave and Blake? I knew there were too many files pre-loaded last week with that miniscule skill update to not be anything more than that. Gwen - "Greatest hero of Ascalon" Am I missing something? I just don't see it. ______________________ |

| From the Official Wiki re: the 3rd quest: | Quote: | | It looks like something didn't make it all the way to Live properly, so the third quest isn't available right now. We're going to look into getting this fixed tomorrow, Joe has gone home to get some well-deserved rest. For those of you that post on the forums, could you please let people know not to kill themselves trying to find it right now? Apologies, but I hope people have been enjoying the new stuff so far, at least. ><; John Stumme 01:33, 19 November 2010 (UTC) |

| ANet has officially gone overboard with the damn costumes and pricing. $14.99 for the 3-pack now?! Such a shame too. They look nice. No way in hell I'm spending $15 twice to get these costumes for both of my main accounts. (I won't buy for one account without buying for the other.) With the Steam holiday game sales coming up soon, there will be much better things to put that $30 towards. Trust me - Steam sells games cheap from Black Friday onwards. Best gaming deals in the business too.
Hell, I only paid around $13 for Minecraft THE GAME a few months ago.
ANet's loss, not mine. They REALLY need to overhaul their in-game store to a 'points' structure instead of outright fees. I can understand the price of transactions, NCSoft's cut, etc., need to be taken into account when pricing individual items, but let us buy POINTS to cash in for items (like XBox Live does or something of that sort). That way there can be in-game store items that are less than $5 in value.
I blame the current generation of electronics consumers for this BS. Such suckers. Everything is goddamn tiered (multiple SKUs & models) and full of overpriced DLC now. Ri-goddamn-diculous. ______________________ |

^^The 'Heart Of The North' section has a great summary of everything thus far (and it will surely have what comes later too once it arrives).______________________ |

| Got this from the Guru 'Hearts Of The North' thread: | John Stumme wrote: | | Hello to you, my friends who share information on the Wiki and forums! If anyone feels like relaying this, since it seems to be causing some conflict: the only thing required to get to Winds of Change when it comes out is that you have beaten Factions. It's entirely its own storyline, and I want to be able to start fresh with it. |
While Hearts Of The North requires War In Kryta to be completed, apparently The GW: Beyond Canthan-based Winds Of Change won't. What a relief.______________________ |

| Makes you wonder the reward. I mean hearts of the north gave us medal of honors. what will this give us since it does not require wik being done. |

I'm pretty confident there will be all-new items, skins, minis, and consumables, all Canthan-themed. It will be the true next stage of GW:Beyond (even including new explorable areas), whereas Hearts Of The North is merely an extension of WiK.
...oh, and let's not forget all-new COSTUMES! ANet will want their sucker playerbase to grab their ankles yet again for something completely not worth it.
Supposedly the full-party heroes update is coming around the same time as this. At least, that's what people on Guru seem to think. I hope the heroes update is coming soon regardless. I still have a ton of characters who need to finish War In Kryta and that will certainly come in handy. I'm too impatient these days to wait around for multiple humans who need to do the chain. According to Guru, now that there's an actual War In Kryta quest to follow, the Thackeray Scavenger Hunt is a REQUIRED step now instead of being optional as it was before.
As for Hearts Of The North, ugh. Sooooooooooooooo repetitive. I feel like I'm doing the same pattern over and over again on the same types of mobs. Plus, there's that whole........ Ranger thing too. It's good for farming Ebon Vanguard points though, so there's that. ______________________ |

| Finished up the Thackeray storyline on one character about a week ago. What a disappointment overall, IMO, although it was pretty predictable that Thackeray was going to join up as a Paragon sooner or later. People on Guru made a great point (shocking, I know) that it wouldn't make sense if Gwen came with you on adventures yet her husband did not. Pretty cool that you are given a decent reward for the relatively easy storyline though (lots of Medals of Honor and Vanguard points), as well as the first inscribable green item in the game, Thackeray's inscribable Rotwing bow. I love that ANet has the Wedding Costumes pack that people can buy but during the actual wedding everyone is wearing their normal armor/clothes anyways. Also, I love how ANet skirted the whole "we just don't have time to program in kissing/hugging animations" issue by simply making Gwen and Thackeray run off and kiss in private. In a way that's good though, because if there were kissing and hugging animations, ANet would probably add in an /emote for them, and then we'd probably see more of those stupid player-made in-game weddings and dudes with girl characters making out in the middle of Lion's Arch during peak hours. I wouldn't want that. Might get some use out of a third Paragon hero once the full-hero parties are implemented but for now, he can rot in my drop-down list. I am expecting the next GW: Beyond segment - Cantha: Winds Of Change - to be a bit more expansive like War In Kryta was, complete with new skins, items, etc.. It's already been confirmed that it will take place in entirely new Canthan explorable areas so as not to fudge up existing areas like the WiK did to Kryta. ______________________ |
