For some reason I have trouble keeping up-to-date on the forums for some time now.

The problem is that I don't get purple ectos, only dim grey ectos, as if I had read the topics before. But I know I haven't, since the update date is today or yesterday.

Any ideas what might be wrong?

I suggest you delete ALL of your browser's cookies (from browser options, CCleaner, etc.) and restart the browser.

I also noticed from your username profile that you have the 'Always notify of replies' option checked to 'Yes'. That might be what is screwing you up.
