| Mojang, the developer of Minecraft, has officially announced its next game, Scrolls: Gamasutra: Mojang Reveals Its Second Game, Scrollshttp://gamasutra.com/view/news/33260/Minecraft_Developer_Mojang_Reveals_Its_Second_Game_Scrolls.php Gamasutra: Interview With Mojang's Jakob Porser On New Game, Scrollshttp://www.gamasutra.com/view/news/33261/Interview_Mojangs_Jakob_Porser_on_New_Game_Scrolls.php PCGamer: Minecraft Creator's Next Project Is A Strategy Game, Scrollshttp://www.pcgamer.com/2011/03/02/minecraft-creators-next-project-is-a-strategy-game-scrolls/ Rock Paper Shotgun: Minecraft Creators Reveal New Game: Scrollshttp://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2011/03/02/minecraft-mojang-reveal-scrolls/ It's basically a version of a collectible card game with strategy elements added to it. Sounds like some sort of a cross between Magic: The Gathering and Final Fantasy: Tactics: | Rock Paper Shotgun article wrote: | “It’s not like Minecraft,” says project lead Jakob Porser, who with Markus Persson has wanted to make the game for five years. “It’s very different from Minecraft. It’s more along the lines of a collectable card game. But it’s not just that – we’ve added a lot.”
It’s more collectable card game meets board game meets role playing. The simple name was a temporary placeholder while they tried to think of something else. But it got stuck. |
There will be a single-player adventure mode (probably campaigns of some sort) and a multiplayer mode. For the Scrolls multiplayer Mojang has big intentions of having championship tournaments and stuff. At first, development will be for PC and Mac only, with potential plans to move to smartphones and tablets too. All formats (ie. PC/Mac/smartphone/iPad/etc.) will be compatible with each other in multiplayer.
If the game is overladen with microtransactions and heavily dependent on them for long-term success, you can definitely count me out. However, it appears that anything that can be purchased (spellbooks, ie. card packs) will be able to be acquired via the in-game-earned currency as well as with actual money.
I'm staying tuned on this one.______________________ |
