Many of you may have heard about Jeremy Lin exploding onto the NBA basketball scene lately. Some of you may have even heard about the story in which 2 ESPN analysts were fired for using the phrase "A chink in the armor" when the Knicks lost their first game with Lin playing. But maybe, just maybe, you missed Saturday Night Live last weekend and didn't see their take on all of this.

Linsanity is Tebow-mania all over again, only multiplied 10,000x because of the area of the country (New York State vs Colorado) and the demographic he's catering to (Asian-American vs. Religious). Hell, the New York Giants barely had the Super Bowl won for a week before all of this started blowing up. It's nuts. As someone who lives in NY State, all I can say is, "damn!", when it comes to gauging the amount of love he is getting around here. This guy is a hot topic on every local news broadcast, local radio, local papers, everywhere, and I'm not even near NYC! Time Warner Cable was having a dispute with MSG Network - the Knicks' sports channel - and had it off the air since New Year's Day. Well, with Linsanity in full force, TWC was getting so many complaints (and MSG was as well) by people who couldn't watch Knicks games that a settlement was reached about a week ago. I read that the MSG Network itself has risen in value by several percent just from Lin's emergence alone, and Knicks tickets are suddenly one of the hottest things you can get.

I've watched a bunch of Knicks games - before and after Lin. Lin isn't a flash in the pan either, although he still needs a bit of improvement despite the raw talent. With him on the floor, EVERY Knicks player is out there working his ass off. The Knicks are still a bit of depth away from making some serious noise in the playoff picture, but before Lin the Knicks weren't even *IN* the goddamn picture. They were 8-15, getting booed, and nobody gave a shit whatsoever. It was turning into a lost season. Lin has single-handedly rejuvenated Knicks basketball and even put it on the map for people who previously didn't care. Lin has not just fans but the players themselves believing that they can be an elite team in the league. I'm a Spurs fan, and the Spurs just won their 11th in a row tonight, but the Knicks/Lin story has completely overshadowed that. I don't even care. The Knicks are actually fun to watch now and they haven't been this way for over a decade. Plus, I'd much rather everyone slobber over Lin's balls than giving me play-by-play updates of everything Lebron does from sun up until sun up.

Spoiler:

Lin has actually already come out and said that he doesn't believe the word "chink" was meant in the context everyone is creating a shitstorm for (which it wasn't), but it was still a MEGA slip-up.

On a similar note, all of the "Lin"-isms that people have been coming up with are... ummm... creative, to say the least:

What a difference a month makes. New coach, injuries galore up and down the team's roster, and Jeremy Lin has a slightly torn meniscus in his knee that will need 6 weeks to heal. The main issue is that at this juncture of the NBA season, 6 weeks takes you into the 2nd round of the playoffs. That's a distance that the New York Knicks will have trouble reaching if they remain as the 7 or 8 seed (with probable matchups vs Chicago or Miami in the 1st round).

So much for Linsanity, version 2012. Sad

I've been watching most Knicks games as with Lin they have become a lot more fun to watch. Up here we get the MSG channel, which shows every game.

Since Carmelo forced Mike D'Antoni out as head coach a few weeks ago, their new head coach wasn't willing to let Lin run the show as much. The offense runs through Carmelo now. Lin was doing alright, but I think he's been playing through this injury for a while before he couldn't bear it anymore. I've never seen a player fouled as hard as often as Jeremy Lin is. Almost makes me wonder if there's New Orleans Saints-style bounty out on him or something. Laughing

Knicks should be a lot better than they are, but as it stands, they will be sent home in the first round of the playoffs. Jeremy Lin is a restricted free agent after the season too, so the Knicks will have to pay him or lose him. (They'll pay him, as the extra $$$ the new bandwagon Asian fans are bringing in is more than worth it.)
